Wash the carrots and apples and remove the parts that you don’t need, use a juicer,  mix  the carrots and the apples and then afterwards add a pinch of ginger, this  juice  is best served chilled.

Broccoli, carrot, apples and beetroot  juice 


(225 g) of broccoli

(170 g) of carrots

(55 g) of beetroot

(55 g) apples

You can add honey for sweet taste

Be sure to wash the broccoli and carrots as well as the beetroot and the apples. It would be best to soak them in water for at least 30 minutes before preparation in order to remove pesticides. After that, remove the hard ends from the carrots and make separate the broccoli into florets. Slice the beetroots, use the juicer and mix all of the ingredients.

The cool green  juice   mix 

9oz of green apples

4½ oz of broccoli

3 oz of celery

1 oz) of parsley

6 oz of cucumber

Wash all the ingredients properly to avoid ingesting pesticides. Cut them into small pieces and remove the hard parts. Use a juicer and use a tall glass. Serve chilled.

Wash, core the apples and cut into small pieces. Separate the broccoli into florets. Cut the ends from the celery.  Juice  all of the ingredients and serve with ice.

How to Make Blueberry and Other Fruit Juice Easily Using a Steam Juicer



Making your own blueberry and other juice is easy using a steamer juicer. Juices can be made from fresh or frozen blueberries. The juice can made into beverages or easily be made into syrup and used for toppings on ice cream and pastries. You can easily make juice from other fruit such as raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, apples, cherries as well as from blueberries.

Equipment needed is a steamer juicer

I use a 10 liter (about 10.5 quarts) Mehu-Liisa steamer juicer and food steamer made in Finland. I purchased mine from Lehman’s but they are available from other sources. The advantage of using this type of juicer is that it makes preparing juice as close to effortless as possible. You cannot believe how incredibly simple it is to extract gallons of juice. The Mehu-Liisa steamer juicer will make better juices without the usual hassle and mess! You may find that you actually enjoy the process of making juice rather than dreading it. It cuts labor down to a minimum. Words can’t express how great it works and how much time and work it saves compared to other methods of making juice. If you make jelly or syrup this is a must. No more peeling and chopping apples. No more pitting cherries. No more crushing berries. You literally throw the fruit in and in an hour you have juice.


  • Blueberries- Use 8 to 12 cups (2 to 3 quarts) of fresh or frozen blueberries or other berries or fruit of your choice.
  • Lemon juice- 2 tablespoons of either fresh squeezed or bottled lemon juice.
  • Sweeteners – It is possible to make low-sugar fruit juice using with stevia or splenda as the sweetener. For those with sugar diabetes you must avoid sugar as much as possible. Using stevia avoids adding sugar and is a healthy choice approved by FDA. There are no harmful side effects with stevia but there are with artificial commercial sweeteners. Stevia is a natural organic product that has been used for many years around the world as a natural safe sweetener. Of course fruit juice itself contains natural sugar so care must be exercised to avoid excessive sugar intake when drinking fruit juice.

  • Regular 1 cup of sugar

Place fruits in the steamer. Layer fruits with sweetener if sweetened juice is desired. If using juice for jellies do not add sweetener.

Fill water kettle

Attach the drain tube with clip in place.

Fill water kettle up to the water level mark. Bring to a boil and set the steamer and juice kettle on top.

Mix lemon juice in the blueberries and prepare juice using the steamer juicer

Heat the blueberry lemon juice mixture in the steamer juicer. Steam the blueberries over continuously boiling water for 60 minutes or longer for hard fruits such as apples and pears. Do not let the pan of water run dry.

Bottle in sterilized bottles

Fill jars to the top to within an inch or less. Immediately put lids on the jars. Store jars upright in a cool dark place.

The recipe for the blueberry juice beverage

  • 1 cup blueberry juice freshly juiced
  • 1 2/3 cups of country Time lemonade
  • 1 ¼ cups sugar or 30 packets of stevia or 15 tsp liquid stevia

This will make 1 ¼ gallon of blueberry juice beverage.

Remedies For Coughing


Lemon, honey, ginger, basil, etc. are a few ingredients that are most of the times easily available at home, but many of us don’t know their healing properties. Here are some simple home remedies for coughing that can be easily prepared.

Soothing Syrups for Coughing

Coughing makes our throat sore and the muscles inside strain due to involuntary movements. To cure this soreness of throat, here are some homemade cough syrups which might help.

* Take a cup of honey in a stainless steel utensil and heat it on a very low flame. As the honey starts getting thinner, add 1 tablespoon of cinnamon and stir it continuously till they mix well. Now add 1/2 cup of lemon juice to this mix and stir again. Pour this mixture into a small jar. Have 1 tablespoon of this twice or thrice a day.

* This is one of the remedies for coughing at night. Grate a ginger and squeeze out its juice in a bowl, add equal amount of honey to it, stir well and sip it. As ginger has many medicinal properties, it helps to cure coughing.

* This one may make you feel giddy, but it surely helps. Grate an onion and squeeze out the juice from it. Mix 1 tablespoon of this juice, sugar and honey, take this syrup twice a day.

* Mix 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 tablespoon of brandy, heat it on a low flame and sip it.

Gargle with These…

Gargling helps to cleanse the throat. Here are some liquids to gargle with.

* In two cups of warm water squeeze one lemon and add 1 tablespoon of salt and vinegar. Gargle with this mixture. If its too strong, dilute it by adding more warm water.

* Take two cups of lukewarm water, 1/3 tablespoon of turmeric powder, 1/2 tablespoon of salt, and gargle with it. This is a good dry cough remedy.

* Squeeze juice from a grated ginger. Add 1/2 cup of ginger juice in 2 cups of warm water and gargle.

* Mix 1/3 tablespoon of turmeric powder, 5 to 6 leaves of holy basil, 1/2 inch ginger root in 2 1/2 cups of water and boil. Gargle with this mixture when its warm.

Hot Steams

Taking steam opens up the air passages and makes breathing easy.

* Add 1/2 tablespoon of vapor rub to your facial steamer, and inhale the steam.

* Add eucalyptus drops to your facial steamer and inhale the steam. Eucalyptus has many medicinal properties and helps to cure cough and cold too. This eucalyptus inhaler can be one of the best remedies for coughing in children.

Herbal Remedies for Coughing

* Take 2 cups of water, add 5 to 6 leaves of holy basil add 2 tablespoons of honey. Boil this mixture for 5 minutes and drink it hot.

* Mix 1 cup of aloe vera juice with 4 to 5 tablespoons of honey, take 2 tablespoon of this syrup twice or thrice a day.

* Boil lemon grass, 4 to 5 leaves of basil, grated ginger and a few drops of lemon juice in 2 cups of water till the juices of these herbs mix with the water; and drink it hot.

It is very hard for a mother to watch their babies cough all night and not sleep. Here are some remedies for coughing in toddlers.

* For starters, you can elevate their mattress by placing a soft pillow under their head. This will make them sleep in a somewhat upright position and stop the phlegm from accumulating in their throat which causes coughing.

* Using a humidifier will do wonders, as the moist air is very helpful to cure cough.

* If your child is more than a year old, you can give him/her 1/2 tablespoon of honey which will soothe the throat and stop coughing.

* A warm bath can help to break the saturated mucus in the throat. Let your little one take a warm bath, but before that, make the bathroom warm by running hot shower till the warm moisture occupies the bathroom. Let your child take a relaxing bath.

* Apply any vapor rub on his/her chest, foot and on the back. This will stop the choking of nostrils and make them breathe easier.

Anaemia refers to condition where the body is deficient in iron content of the blood. o Boil water in a small pot and add parsley leaves. Drink several times daily to make you feel better.

o Eat lots of apples every day for more energy. You can cook the apples or eat them fresh.

o Mash 1 banana and mix with 1 tablespoon of honey, eat daily.

o Drink tomato juice.

o Eat a lot of lettuce to treat anemia; add lettuce to your salad or sandwich.

o Drink white cabbage juice daily to help you feel better and get more energy.

o Drink beetroot juice mixed with apple juice and honey to treat anemia.

o Eat spinach daily to make you stronger and help you fight the anemia naturally.

o Mix egg yolk with honey and eat one teaspoon every morning.

The home remedies might take longer duration to cure the problem of anaemia, but is sure to cure it from root and is beneficial in the long run.


Jaundice – Symptoms, Causes and Treatment


Yellow, not a good color on most people, especially if it is your skin tone or the whites of your eyes. Jaundice [a common liver disorder] causes this discoloration of the skin due to an increase of bile pigments [biliruben] in the blood stream.


* Extreme fever

* Headaches

* Extreme weakness

* Loss of appetite

* Nausea

* Severe constipation

* Dull pain over the liver region

* Yellow discoloration of the eyes, tongue, skin and darkish yellow urine

* Intense itching [generally caused due to obstructive jaundice]

3) There are certain diseases, which could cause discoloration [jaundice] e.g. typhoid, malaria, yellow fever and tuberculosis.

Treatment and remedies

1) Tomatoes – considered a valuable and effective home remedy, drink a glass of pure tomato juice with a pinch of salt and pepper early every morning.

2) Lemon – 20ml of pure lemon juice mixed into a glass of water, taken several times a day, is also beneficial and will help in the protection of the damaged liver cells.

3) Barley water – boil 1 cup of barley in 3 liters of water for around three hours, take a glass of this mixture several times a day.

4) Bitter luffa – pound the bitter luffa [preferably green] in a muslin cloth and squeeze out the liquid, place the liquid in the palm of the hand and sniff it up through the nostrils, this is a very effective but nasty way to bring relief to the patient but has some side effects like dizziness, migraines and fever [especially in a delicate patient] so I would not recommend it but only because the thought of sniffing anything up my nose gives me the creeps. The liquid needed can also be obtained through dried luffa or luffa seeds if need be.

5) Leaves of snake gourd – prepare an infusion of 15gm dried leaves in 250ml of boiling water, while this is cooling you will need to make a coriander mixture. This is done by boiling a tablespoon of these seeds in 1/2 a liter of water until it is reduced to 1/3 of the original amount. Mix 30 to 50 ml of the snake gourd infusion with the same amount of the coriander liquid and give to the patient at least 3 times daily.

6) Green leaves of radish – pound these leaves in a soft muslin cloth and squeeze out the juice [you will need a fair amount of this juice], give the patient at least half a liter of this juice daily. This juice will assist in increasing the patient’s appetite and help evacuate the constipated bowel. An improvement [if not a cure] in the patient will be seen if this liquid is given to them for 8 or 10 days.

7) Glass of sugarcane juice, mixed with the juice of half a lime – taken at least twice a day can assist in the recovery, here I need to stipulate that the sugarcane juice needs to be clean, take care when squeezing this plant as there will be sand etc on the outside and this could infect the juice making the already weak patient even sicker.

8) Pigeon pea – extract the juice from these leaves [green] and give 60ml to the patient daily, a marked improvement will be noticed after a few days.

9) Mixture of almonds, dried dates and cardamoms – 2 dates, 5 cardamoms and eight almonds are needed, soak these in a bowl of water overnight. Remove the outer coat of the almonds and the pips from the dates and then make into a fine paste [some water may need to be drained before hand], mix in 50gms sugar and butter with this paste and let the patient lick the result off a spoon through-out the day.

10) Jaundice berry – a herb botanically known as Berberis vultaris, it is very good for people with jaundice, the bark needs to be pulverized and the extracted fluid given in 2 – 4ml doses a few time during the day.

Medical advice should be sought if you suspect there is a major underlying cause for the change in skin color. The liver is a vital organ and good care should be taken not to ignore any problems that may damage the said organ.
